Our helping hands

LIB relies on the close working relationships it has developed with the business community, town council and the voluntary sector in town. If you think you can spare a few hours now and again, we’d love to hear from you.

We don’t need a long term commitment, but it would be good to know we can call on you when the jobs pop up. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty now and again, have a strong back and a willing heart, drop us a line. Email us here.

We can reimburse reasonable travel costs, and we’ll always find you a cup of tea to keep you going.

This is what we’re doing at the moment.

Painting

Handy with a brush and a pot of paint? Our helping hands painted benches, railings and even a bus shelter this year. It’ll need regular maintenance. Like to lend a hand?

Wood working

In 2018 we were given a grant from Cornwall Council to repair the wooden benches around town. There will be more to do this year. Is this something you can help with?

Planting

The biggest part of our work revolves around plants and flowers. If you’re an experienced gardener, we’d love your help looking after the town’s flower beds.

If you just like being out of doors, we can always use your help dead-heading our displays throughout the year. We’ll show you how!

Watering

We water all our own community flower displays around the town using the bowser that Liskeard Town Council have kindly loaned us. Watering is usually done in the late afternoon or early evening (when it’s cooler).

It’s a very sociable way to get to know people and have a gentle walk around the town. We give you full safety training in using the bowser.

Head for heights?

Twice a year we’re putting up new baskets and taking down the old ones. We’ve got a great team who are fearless shinning up and down ladders and manoeuvring the flower displays.

We can always do with a spare pair of hands in May and November during our Big Blooming Week.

Fundraising

We have a range of fundraising events throughout the year. We use the money to pay for the displays you see around town that haven’t been bought or sponsored by a local business.

In this way, every resident can contribute to our work – even if it’s just a few shillings for a pot plant – and take some ownership of the flowers they see in the town. Look out out for out for our Bring & Bloom pop-up shop every spring in the town centre. Help us to run a shop, make up tombola prizes or grow some herbs to sell. Every little helps!
