Where we came from

Since we set up in 2017, we’ve garnered over a dozen awards for the floral displays across the town, supporting our business partners, voluntary groups and trade associations to up their game and come out shining. In 2019, we entered for the Britain in Bloom Pennant Cup category, and were delighted to receive a Gold Award on behalf of everyone in the town who supported us.
How we manage ourselves

LIB is has agreed a set of aims and objectives that set out what we do and how we work. Read it here. The conscience of LIB is the Steering Group who make sure that what we do delivers on the aims we’ve agreed. We have representatives from Liskeard Town Council, Cornwall Council, tourism, business, schools and our volunteering group. Download a copy of our Terms of Reference here.
Our finances

When we first set up in 2017, Liskeard Town Council and Persimmon Homes gave us grants to get us going. Since then, we get our income from selling flower displays to our business customers, fundraising from our annual Bring & Bloom pop-up shop and donations from residents around the town. By buying one of our plants at The Ploughmans Festival or having a go at the tombola, it means that everyone in the town can help support our Bloom work. We have no income from membership fees or subscriptions.
Insurance

LIB has both Public Liability & Employers Liability insurance cover to the value of £10M. This means that our volunteers and contractors are covered in the event of any harm that may come to them or from their work. It also means our customers are assured that any claims arising out of our work on and to their premises will be covered by our insurances.
Forward Plan

None of our work happens by chance and we always take time out at the start of the year to look ahead. Our Gardener’s Group come together to see what they might do better or to extend the scope of our work in the next year. Once we’ve agreed a practical plan, our treasurer calculates the cost and works out how we can fund our work. Once we have a workable plan, the Steering Group check it out for compliance with our constitution and sign it off for action.
If you have a project you’d like to develop with us, send us a short email with brief details and we’ll be in touch. Best time to talk to us about new work is in January when we’re planning the year ahead.
Before Bloom

We set up Bloom in 2017 to fill the town with flowers, and quickly realised that working with volunteers and businesses brought even greater benefits to the town. This portfolio shows what the town was like before we began our work. It’s easy to forget what life was like before the Dean Street garden had a makeover or when the Wetherspoons site was just a graffitied hoarding.
